Performance Coaching

Available in-person in Vancouver, and online worldwide

As a professional performer for over 30 years, I am here to support you as you work towards your own meaningful performances, whether they be artistic, athletic, or simply speaking up in a meeting.

In addition to playing thousands of concerts and presenting myself at dozens of orchestra auditions around the world, I have worked in a number of highly competitive environments, such as elite post-secondary institutions. As I faced the inevitable performance anxiety on these occasions, they became valuable opportunities. I was able to learn about anxiety, and about practical strategies that would ultimately help me to manage the uncomfortable feelings.

How is coaching different from counselling? I suspect there are many different answers to this question! What is important to note, is that the acts of counselling and psychotherapy are strictly regulated as a health profession in many jurisdictions, whereas coaching is generally not. As a certified clinical counsellor, I am bound to ethical standards of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. As a coach or as a cello teacher, my counselling skills and ethics will always inform my work, however, it will be a different type of relationship, with different boundaries.

If I work with you as a performance coach, we will focus on performance-related strategies and goals. For example, we won't be looking at treating your depression or generalized anxiety, or doing trauma therapy. If a topic comes up that may not be suited for our work together, I will let you know.

The hourly fee for coaching is $140 plus tax.

The length, frequency and number of coaching sessions will be tailored to your needs.

If you are currently a student, or on a limited budget, please let me know what you feel you can afford. Depending on my current caseload, I may be able to offer some sessions on a sliding scale.
